The first Health Systems Global (HSG) Media is pleased to invite applications for six Health Systems Global Media Fellowship Awards to journalists carrying out cutting-edge news and reporting on health systems and health policy issues around the world.
This is an opportunity for journalists to get involved and build relationships within the community and report on some of the biggest issues and challenges facing the global community in a rapidly changing world.
The Media Grant process will include funded attendance and participation in the Fifth Global Symposium on Health Systems Research in October and close collaboration and support from experts in health systems research and policy.
Journalists will work closely with leading thinkers and practitioners to advance the Health Systems Strengthening (HSS) agenda and address critical health systems and health policy issues in their country and region.
The Media Fellowship process will begin in January, with fellows beginning research or research for an article to be published in a major store by September. This published piece will be considered for the inaugural Health Systems Global Media Award.

Eligible Nationality
The fellowship will be open to six professional journalists in each of the six World Health Organization regions (one will be selected from each region):
- Africa
- America
- Southeast Asia
- Europe
- Eastern Mediterranean
- West Pacific.
HSG Media Fellowship Worth
- Health Systems Global Certificate and Citation
- Profiling in the global web of health systems and social networks
- Full access and assistance to participate in the Global Symposium in Liverpool in September 2019, including satellite and training sessions (flights, accommodation and subsistence for five days)
- Opportunity to interview leading thinkers/actors within health systems
- Health Systems Global Full Membership for 1 year
- A chance to win the inaugural Health Systems Global Media Award for your article.

Health Systems Globa offers 6 scholarships annually.
Health Systems Global Media Fellowship Eligibility 2022
- Print Journalists – Newspaper/Magazine (to submit at least 3 articles from a reputable media outlet with the applicant’s line in the article)
- Broadcast journalists and filmmakers (to submit at least 3 audio or video files of broadcast programs)
- Freelance journalists (to submit at least 3 articles from a reputable media outlet with the applicant online in the article or audio or video files from three broadcast programs)
- eNews journalists (news official website); (to submit at least 3 pieces from a recognized media outlet with the applicant’s name on the article).
How to apply Health Systems Global Media Fellowship 2022
Applicants must:
- Pitch an idea for a feature piece
- Have experience in public policy; Health or human development and/or have a clear interest in health systems and politics by providing 3-5 published articles/podcasts/radio shows/blogs
- Be regularly employed or freelance for a reputable outlet, as verified by an editor.
Thereafter, fellows are expected to:
- Place at least 1 piece before HSR2022, to be considered for the award by the panel in October (must be published and submitted to the panel by September). The signature should state that this is your submission for the HSG Media Fellowship.
- Express your interest in who you would like to interview during HSR2022.
- Place at least 1 piece during the symposium (or within 2 weeks of the event)
- Place at least piece 1 within 2 months after the end of the symposium.
* All pieces must speak to the topics of the symposium
Additional support to selected candidates will include:
- Introductory welcome seminar for selected candidates
- Support in the development of the pitch idea contributed to the application stage.
- A toolkit to strengthen your work on reactive pieces, for example, access to HSG spokespeople (including people in your country and region); A glossary of key terms.
