The State Oceanic Administration (SOA) and China’s Ministry of Education have collaborated to launch the Marine Scholarship of China, which will provide financial support to outstanding students from coastal countries or regions surrounding the South China Sea, the Pacific and Indian Oceans, as well as African and American developing countries, to study in China for a master’s or doctoral degree in oceanography or other related specialties, cultivating advanced professionals of the r The China Scholarship Council (CSC) is in charge of the Scholarship’s admissions and day-to-day operations. Scholarships are available at Xiamen University in China for doctoral, master’s, and undergraduate students. Doctoral and Master’s candidates who receive a first-class scholarship will have their tuition fees paid (for a maximum of three years for doctoral programs, and two to three years for master’s programs).

Meanwhile, in compliance with Chinese Government Scholarships, the University gives a monthly living stipend to excellent doctoral and master’s candidates (RMB 2,000/month/person for doctoral students; RMB 1,700/month/person for master’s students). Candidates for bachelor’s degrees will not be eligible for the first-class scholarship. The grantees’ tuition fees will be covered by the second-class scholarship (for a maximum of 3 years for doctorate programs, 2-3 years for master’s programs, and 4-5 years for bachelor’s programs).

Founded in 1921, Xiamen Institution is a state university. It is a prominent educational institution that ranks 17th among Great China’s greatest educational institutes. Eligibility for Scholarship 

  1. Applicants must be non-Chinese nationals in excellent health who are citizens of a coastal/island country in the South China Sea, the Indian Ocean, the Pacific Ocean, and its surrounding island countries, or an African or American developing country.
  2. The applicant must apply for an ocean-related postgraduate degree program. Applicants who are currently employed in the oceanographic and related industries will be given priority.
  3. Qualifications and age restrictions (as of September 1, 2022)

(1) Master’s programs: a bachelor’s degree or above is required, as well as being under the age of 40

(2) Doctoral programs: you must have a master’s degree or higher and be under 45 years old.

 

China Marine Scholarship Interview Dates, Process, and Location

A thorough examination of the applicant’s professional history, academic record, job experience, language skills, overall merits, research accomplishments, and the remarks of their prospective supervisor will be conducted. For final clearance, the shortlisted candidates will be sent to China’s Ministry of Natural Resources and China Scholarship Council.
