About the Scholarship:
Thammasat University’s Sirindhorn International Institute of Technology (SIIT) is a semi-autonomous institute of technology founded in 1992. It’s in Thailand’s Pathum Thani province. It is one of Thailand’s top research universities, with programs in science, technology, and engineering, as well as allied management studies. All of the programs are international, using English as the medium of instruction. The institute is a member of the LAOTSE (Links to Asia by Organizing Traineeship and Student Exchange) network, which is an international collaboration of premier European and Asian universities.. SIIT provides undergraduate and graduate (master’s and doctoral) programs leading to the degrees of Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng. ), Bachelor of Science (B.Sc. ), Master of Engineering (M.Eng. ), Master of Science (M.Sc. ), and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) (Ph.D.). Chemical engineering (ChE), civil engineering (CE), computer engineering (CPE), digital engineering (DE), electrical engineering (EE), engineering management (EM), industrial engineering (IE), management technology (MT), and mechanical engineering are among the bachelor’s degree options (ME). Master of Engineering Program in Engineering Technology, Master of Engineering Program in Information and Communication Technology for Embedded Systems, and Master of Engineering Program in Logistics and Supply Chain Systems Engineering are the three master’s programs offered by SIIT. A Master of Science in Engineering and Technology and a Doctor of Philosophy in Engineering and Technology are also available. SIIT is financially and administratively separate from Thammasat University, despite the fact that it is a unit of Thammasat University. The Board of Trustees, which includes representatives from Thammasat University, FTI, Nippon Keidanren, and scholars nominated by the university, guides and oversees SIIT’s policies and activities. In addition, the Academic Review Committee (ARC), which is made up of reputable experts from many domains, gives academic and research advice and recommendations. The Institute is divided into four administrative divisions, a library and information services center, and six academic schools with fifteen academic programs, all of which are led by the Director.
Alternatively, because the institute is an autonomous (semi-private) unit of Thammasat University, it receives no financing from the government and must thus generate and manage its own revenue and expenditure. The institute received initial funding from Keidanren and FTI to begin operations. Research grants and scholarships from foreign organizations such as the Asian Development Bank, locals such as companies and the Thailand Research Fund, and individual contributions make up part of the funding. Tuition fees, which are arguably excessive when compared to state-funded academic establishments, provide the balance of the funding.
The Institute has created teacher and student exchange programs with a variety of universities in Asia, Australia, Europe, and North America at this moment. These initiatives allow not only academic members to work on research projects with their counterparts, but also students to take classes at such universities. In addition, qualified international professors are routinely invited to come and teach SIIT courses as part of such programs.
