The scholarship Categories
The University of Brunei provides scholarships in three categories, each with its own duration:
- Master by Coursework: This program can be completed within twelve (12) months of full-time study or extended to eighteen (18) months, depending on the chosen program of the students.
- Master by Research: This program requires a full-time study period of twenty-four (24) months.
- Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.): The minimum study period for a Ph.D. is thirty-six (36) months of full-time study or sixty (60) months of part-time study, depending on the student’s chosen program.

Scholarship Eligibility
Before proceeding with the application, the students must meet the following criteria:
- The scholarship program is open to students from both Brunei and other countries.
- To be eligible for the Master’s degree program, applicants must possess a First Class Bachelor’s degree.
- For the Doctoral degree program, applicants are required to hold a Master’s degree certificate.
- A well-crafted and impactful research proposal is a necessary component of the application.
- Candidates are expected to demonstrate their suitability and preparedness to pursue studies in their chosen field.
- Meeting the specified English language requirements is a mandatory criterion for all applicants.
For Brunei Darussalam citizens:
- If you are admitted to undergraduate study through the Higher Education Central Admission System (HECAS) and eligible for the Brunei Government Scholarship, the scholarship application process will be facilitated by UBD to the Ministry of Education on your behalf.
- If you have been admitted to graduate study, upon receiving the offer letter from UBD, it is important to promptly complete the required form and submit it for the scholarship application process.
Brunei Darussalam Citizen Requirements:
- Hold a relevant Bachelor’s Degree with Honors (Second Class and above) or its equivalent from a recognized institutions
- Obtain a minimum credit of C6 in Bahasa Melayu in the Brunei GCE ‘O’ Level Examination.
- Achieve a minimum credit of C6 in the English Language in the Brunei GCE ‘O’ Level Examination OR a Grade B in IGCSE English as a Second Language OR an overall band score of 6.0 in IELTS.
- For Undergraduate applicants, the age should not exceed 26 years, while for Graduate applicants, the age should not exceed 30 years.
- Must be currently unemployed.

The application for the scholarships can be accessed in an online portal provided by the university. Eligible applicants must create an account to be able to access and begin with their scholarship application.
Scholarship Awards
The University of Brunei Darussalam Scholarship for the academic year 2023-2024 offers comprehensive financial support to postgraduate students, both local and international, admitted at UBD. The scholarship provides the following advantages:
- Full waiver of tuition fees, including registration and acceptance fees at Universiti Brunei Darussalam.
- A monthly subsistence allowance of BND 2200.00 for the entire 36-month duration of the program.
- On-campus accommodation will be provided throughout the 36-month period or during the scholarship awards.
- One round-trip economy class air ticket will be given to students upon accepting the scholarship and another upon completion of their studies, facilitating travel between their home country and Brunei.
- Field research allowances are available, with BND 1000.00 allocated for Arts and Humanities candidates and BND 2000.00 for Science candidates.
