This full coverage education fund was first created for the students who shows a particular advantage towards academics. Primarily this foundation was founded to help those, especially girls who come from a low-income part of Africa. This involves a higher education opportunity for students that show promise, and would be able to take courses in Uganda, the United States, parts of South Africa, and a few others countries.

During the 1960’s era there was an air-force operation that was conducted effectively titled “Kennedy/Mboya Student airlifts.” This actually the beginning of a thorough educational partnership with individuals and institutions with an interest in creating a better education base for young girls in Africa.

For a student to be accepted be the Zawadi Africa Education Fund is an immense accomplishment and honor. Not only is this highly competitive for young women in Africa to apply to, but multiple students apply each year and do not become a recipient. The student must show incredible strength and leadership willpower to be presented as the recipient of this scholarship.

The Zawadi Africa Education Fund was founded in 2002 by Dr Susan Mboya, and is based on the highly successful Kennedy-Mboya Africa Student Airlifts Program of the 1960’s, pioneered by Tom Mboya, (Dr. Mboya’ s father), and President John F. Kennedy.

The Kennedy/Mboya airlifts educated over 1000 bright young East Africans who went on to become Africa’s post-independence leaders. They include, among their alumni, the late Professor Wangari Maathai (Nobel Peace Prize Laureate), and Barack Obama Sr., Father of President Barack Obama. Zawadi Africa Education Fund is a 501 registered in the US.

The core values of this scholarship involve leadership, seal determination, accountability, responsibility, giving back to one another, learning about family spirit, and coming to understand what corporate governance means to a community.

 

Eligibility

  • Must be a student that has an undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Information Technology
  • Must be female to apply
  • Must be from an African nation such as: Cabo Verde, Niger, Nigeria, Ghana, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Libya, South Sudan, Tunisia, Namibia, Gabon, Comoros, Lesotho, Togo, Congo, Benin, Rwanda, and many more
  • This scholarship is intended for women who are looking to excel their current higher learning experience
  • The female students that do apply must come from a low income financial background
  • Male students cannot apply for this scholarships opportunity
  • Only short listed candidates will be called for an interview after the deadline of this application
  • All students that apply must have a whole passing grade on their exams that is between 100% – 90%
  • No student can have  criminal record when applying for this scholarship
  • Students must be 18 years of age or have the written and signed consent of their parents to attend the work-study program scholarship

 

Requirements

Must be a female student has overcome incredible obstacles and hurdles throughout life. A main one requirement

All students should have an attached (one page minimum) biography and a passport photo. The biography should be typed out and highlight an individual’s family educational background, different aspirations, financial annual income, hobbies and activities that the student has undertaken while in school and in that individual’s community.

Applicants should seek our letters of recommendation (there is no actual maximum amount but 2 letters should be enough) from a professor, teacher, or adult school faculty member. Students can not acquire a letter of recommendation from any family member or family friend.

This scholarships has very strict guidelines and rules that each individual needs to follow. If a student has not completed one of the required courses or is not quite finished with having an undergraduate degree, they cannot apply. If they do, their scholarship application will be ignored and dismissed.

All applicants should understand that they may be writing multiple essay’s that need to be included in the submission of their scholarship application.

To prove a students idenity, all applicants need to photo copy their birth certification and National I.D. card.

Since the only way to apply is by filling out the form, the student can print off the form and send it in. As matter of fact, this is the preferred way until the organization updates their scholarship web portal page.

Zawadi Africa DOES NOT charge any fees for this application neither has it contracted any company or agency or individual to undertake the application review process on its behalf. The application process for Zawadi Africa Educational Fund is handled solely by Zawadi Africa country office staff.

Zawadi Africa takes the students enrolled in the program through a rigorous nine-month period where the student will be coached and prepared to apply to partner schools offering scholarships.

However, students can expect that their full tuition is paid for by the organization. Along with room and board being covered by the organization and the experience to build up from the undergraduate computer technology degrees that is required.

Also there is a significant amount of well-being and a sense of community for the women who have become apart of this wonderful scholarship program.

 

Deadline

There are multiple deadlines available for instance like for Kenya, the deadline date is March 20, 2022. Since there are multiple deadlines like for Ghana, Kenya, and South Sudan. Students should check the website frequently to see what the deadlines are and if any new deadlines or countries have been added to the list.

 

Open Submission Window Time Frame

There are several open submission window time frames available for students. While students can apply to the country that they intend to gain a higher education experience from, students must look at the website frequently to know that the deadline and open window dates have not changed for any reason. Students should always check to see if their have been any extensions or delays with deadlines and open submission times.

 

Annual

This is an annual scholarships opportunity. This scholarship cannot be renewed, however, students can look for different scholarships that they can apply to for different countries. So far this annual scholarship had picked only a handful of students per year but at different intervals according to the nations that have a deadline in each year.
