Maynooth University’s Department of International Developments in Ireland offers the Master’s EU Students Scholarship to encourage the outstanding EU and International students to apply for the academic year of 2022-2023.

International Development Scholarship

Two international or EU students will be awarded to pursue their master’s degree in a full-time course program in International Development or the MA in International Peacebuilding Security and Developments. The two scholarship positions will be offered on a gender equality basis, one position of the scholarship will be reserved for the eligible female applicants.

The scholarship opportunity is created to support the outstanding students to develop their skills and understanding of the international development area of study and apply a critical approach to learning and enable the students to reflect on their experiences to learn the development theories, different approaches, and policies. The students will also be prepared to work in the international development field by linking development practice theory and seeking alternatives to the development process and learning to turn the development into aspirations in the reality in the North and Global South.

The Program will highlight local-global relations, the various socio-economic and political factors that create challenges and more opportunities for development at national and international levels, and examine the work of international and national development between the United Nations, NGO Governments, and Civil Society Group to address the challenges and ensure a better world for all.

Scholarship Provider: Maynooth University

About the Provider

Maynooth University is the home of the Department of International Development, which offers undergraduate programs such as Flow in the Arts (MH101), as well as graduate and master’s programs (through full-time, part-time, and distance learning programs).

International development is concerned with human development around the world. Maynooth University has been offering undergraduate development training since 2013 in partnership with the former Center for Kimmage Development Studies (providing undergraduate and postgraduate programs in development research since 1974). The acquisition of the center led to the creation of the Department of International Development at the University of Maine. This department is located in the House of Education.

The programs specifically focus on the relationship between the North and Global South and the opportunities and challenges facing society in a rapidly changing international context. International development emphasizes local-global relations and how we must think globally when acting locally. The university will examine issues such as globalization, food security, climate change, human rights, poverty, education, health, gender, empowerment, and inequality from an international development viewpoint.

In addition to the university’s academic programs, the university offers capacity-building services dedicated to the ongoing professional development of staff involved in international development, both local and international. These capacity-building services are offered as individual and organizational support and short-term practical training opportunities.

The Department of International Development’s vision is to have a world of equality, respect, and justice for all. A mission to promote equality, justice, critical thinking, and the eradication of poverty in the world. The department seeks to do this by facilitating the training and learning of individual and group practitioners working for social, economic, and political change in society, thereby enabling all practitioners to work effectively for the overall development.
