Eligibility 

Before proceeding with the application, interested students must meet the eligibility requirements of the scholarship program.

  • The applicants must be holding a passport from one of the eligible 54 African countries.
  • Must be classified as an international paying-fee student.
  • Plan to start your studies in an eligible undergraduate or postgraduate coursework degree program at the University. Keep in mind the exclusion to apply for other campus programs.
  • Commence your studies in an eligible program at either an Australian or Online campus, as stated in your Letter of Offer.
  • Not currently be the recipient of another University scholarship, unless prior approval for special dispensation has been obtained from the university.
  • Fulfill all the financial obligations of an international full-fee paying student, covering tuition fees and other expenses required for obtaining a student visa, and in case scholarship eligibility is not maintained.
  • Must have good communication skills in oral and written English.

Application Process 

The scholarships will automatically be applied upon application at the University of Newcastle for eligible students. Keep in mind that it is important to meet all the criteria. The scholarship awards will be based on the academic performance of the students as well as maintaining it to continue the scholarship awards.

  • The recipient of the awards will be receiving a notification of the scholarship value with a letter of offer from the university department.
  • If the recipient of the award reject to accept the offer of the scholarship awards, then it’s their responsibility to inform the Admission team of the university.
  • All academic determinations will be made according to the ATAR and GPA of the candidates.

Please ensure that all documents are in PDF format, as the application portal only accepts PDF files. You can upload a maximum of 3 PDF files, each smaller than 5 MB, for each document type upload field.

Scholarship Value 

  • Payment: AU$ 1250 per 10 units of study.
  • Scholarship Value: AU$10,000 per year for full-time study (80 units).
  • The scholarship amount will be directly deducted from your student account as a tuition fee reduction for each study term in an eligible program.
  • Adjustments will be made on a pro-rata basis if you have an approved reduced study load, credit exemptions, or enroll in more than a full-time study load.
  • The advertised scholarship value and the number of scholarships available are subject to change depending on the program’s length and your continued eligibility.
