The #RAREis Scholarship Fund, supported by a foundation committed to rare disease advocacy, provides a meaningful opportunity for individuals living with rare diseases to pursue their educational goals. This scholarship helps reduce financial barriers and celebrates the strength and resilience of those who face unique medical challenges.
Scholarship Overview
- Award Amount: $5,000 (one-time award)
- Total Recipients for Fall 2025: Up to 104 students
This scholarship is designed to support individuals who are navigating the challenges of rare diseases while continuing their academic journey in college, university, or vocational training.
Eligibility Criteria
To apply for the #RAREis Scholarship, applicants must:
- Be at least 17 years old
- Have a physician-confirmed diagnosis of a rare disease
- Be a U.S. resident
- Be enrolled or planning to enroll (full-time or part-time) in an undergraduate, graduate, or trade/vocational school for the Fall 2025 semester
Application Requirements
- Personal Essay: Applicants must submit an essay reflecting on their personal experience or their understanding of the rare disease community. The essay should highlight any overlooked challenges and offer thoughtful solutions or insights based on their lived experience or advocacy.
- Additional Review Factors: The selection process will consider:
- Demonstrated leadership skills
- Participation in school and community activities
- Work experience
- Academic performance
- Financial need
Important Dates
- Application Deadline: April 28, 2025, by 3:00 PM Central Time
- Notification of Results: June 2025
Reapplication Policy
The award is a non-renewable scholarship, but students who continue to meet the eligibility requirements may reapply annually. Each applicant can receive the scholarship up to four times throughout their academic career.
