To encourage talented international and local students in the USA, the School of the Art Institute of Chicago offers Two Merit-based Scholarships for the academic year of 2022-2023. The Merit-based Scholarships are intended for deserving students who can demonstrate an exceptional level of skills, capabilities, academic excellence, and thoughtfulness.

The scholarship is intended to break the financial burden of deserving students who want to further their education and be more focused on reaching their plans for the future.

Eligibility 

To be considered for the scholarship the students must be able to meet the criteria given by the institute.

  • All international and local students are eligible to apply for the scholarship.
  • Must be able to demonstrate their academic excellence.
  • Must be able to be admitted at the Institut

Students must note that International students are not allowed to apply for the need-based scholarship and can have alternative options on working on campus for up to twenty hours per week during the winter and summer session and twenty hours during the spring and fall season. International students are not allowed to be employed off-campus unless it was being authorized by the international advisor, unauthorized working off-campus is a serious violation and can affect the student’s migration status.

The undergraduate merit-based scholarships of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago

The School of the Art Institute of Chicago awards a large number of undergraduate students in a merit-based scholarship every year. The students who have completely made their admission at the institute will be automatically counted in a merit-based scholarship. Recipients are selected through an extensive review of each student’s portfolio, academic excellence, and letter of intent.

  • Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship

Will be awarded to international students who will be qualified in the admission process. The recipient will be awarded an amount of $2,000 per academic year. This is in addition to all other merit scholarships awarded through SAIC accreditation. No separate application is required for this award.

  • Tuition Exchange Scholarship 

If parents or guardians are working in a college within the tuition exchange association, then you may be eligible to apply for a tuition scholarship. The students must contact the liaison officer at the student’s parent’s or guardian employment to be able to understand the eligibility and for the submission of application at the SAIC.

The students must submit a complete application and portfolio, through the regular SAIC admissions process no later than February 1 of the school year prior to the intended entry date, while also applying for a Tuition Exchange Scholarship at SAIC through your parent’s workplace. Scholarship selection is announced annually on March 1 and results will be based on the student’s academic and merit achievements.

The scholarship amount is determined annually by the consortium. For the 2021-22 school year the amount to be received by the successful students will be  $39,000 and for the 2022-2023 school year the amount will be up to $40,000. Students who receive this scholarship are responsible for tuition fees and expenses on top of the scholarship amount of the Tuition Exchange Scholarship.

Language Requirements 

International students are required to have good skills in oral and written English. Therefore, the institute requires the following English test score to be submitted:

  • Duolingo- 110
  • IELTS of 6.5
  • TOEFL -82
  • PTE-55

Scholarship Deadline 

The deadline for completion and submission will be until the end of January 2022. The scholarship is being offered annually by the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. The scholarship committee will be reviewing all applications and portfolios after the deadline date. Decisions will be made and announced after the review period.

Application 

All applications can be made through an online portal provided by the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, admission process must be followed as stated by each category. All incomplete applications will not be considered and reviewed by the scholarship committee.

Scholarship Awards 

The scholarship award amount will be depending on the merit-based received by the successful undergraduate students.

Renewal Requirements 

The scholarship renewal will be every end of the semester, the completion of academic requirements will be reviewed for each student. As one of the merit scholars, you are required to successfully complete more or less 75 or 100% credit hours for each semester. Details must be read in the scholarship award letter. Scholarships are renewable for up to 4 years.

It is advisable to read and agree on the terms and conditions applied to every merit scholarship offered by the Institution. The local and international students who will be commencing their undergraduate degree are required to complete the FAFSA to be able to apply on the state and institute aid, federal and merit scholarship.
