About the Scholarship:

The University of Sheffield was founded in 1897 and is comprised of the Sheffield Medical School, Firth College, and Sheffield Technical School. The university is mostly concerned with technological and scientific fields. The institution is also one of the six red brick universities that were created and built in England’s industrial sector. The classes began with a group of 114 pupils, and as time went on, the number of students enrolled climbed to 1,000. Over the years, the university has grown rapidly. Because of the increased number of students, the university built additional departments, residence halls, and faculty buildings, as well as expanding the campus. There are numerous buildings on campus, as well as various faculties and departments. The Octagon Center was built near the university in 1983. It is well-known as a conference and music venue hub. The site houses the Department of Plant Sciences and Biology, a museum, and the Arts Tower. The Western Bank Library is well noted for its extensive collection of books and research papers. The library houses over 150 special collections and over 25,000 rare books.

In addition, in 2015, the Faculty of Engineering was established. It has laboratories, theatre lectures, and workshop classes. The St. George church was also built on campus, making it the first campus to have one. It was later converted into a lecture hall in 1994. Undergraduate and postgraduate degree programs are available at the university. The academic system is notable for having a large number of courses organized into departments and faculties. Faculty of Science, Faculty of Arts and Humanities, Faculty of Social Sciences, Faculty of Engineering, and Faculty of Medicine and Health are the five faculties in which the subjects are divided. In addition, an international faculty known as City College, which is located in Greece, is involved in the curriculum. The university’s Manufacturing Research Centre works in collaboration with Boeing. It manages BAE Systems-funded projects. International independent assessments routinely confirm Sheffield’s strong performance in terms of quality teaching and research. Sheffield’s Students’ Union is consistently ranked the finest in the UK for its student experience. The University’s life-changing research, innovation, and teaching not only improves the lives of its alumni, but also influences the world in which we live. Sheffield’s research was rated as world-leading or internationally excellent in the most recent UK Research Excellence Framework.

Lee Child (renowned author), David Blunkett (former Home Secretary), George Porter (Nobel Prize in Chemistry), Harry Kroto (contributed to the discovery of fullerenes), and Jessica Ennis are just a few of the noteworthy alumni of the University of Sheffield (Gold Medallist at Olympics). Sheffield is known for its unique combination of academic achievement and an incredible student experience, the heart of which is the Students’ Union, which has been chosen best in the UK for the fourth year in a row (Whatuni Student Choice Awards 2017-2020). The Students’ Union, located in the centre of campus, contains stores, cafes, and bars, as well as over 350 clubs and organisations. This is what makes their time in Sheffield so unforgettable for many overseas students. The International Student Support Team can help with any international-related issues, such as visas. At the start of each academic year, there is a meet & greet service from Manchester International Airport, as well as a residential orientation program. To assist you in settling into life in the UK, Intro Week includes speeches by University officials, information fairs, and tours of the campus and city. International students are provided University housing, which is mostly en-suite with a common kitchen, but also includes shared bathrooms, larger luxury rooms, and studio apartments. According to the Natwest Student Living Index 2021, Sheffield has the lowest student living costs in the UK.

Staying in university housing allows you to meet new people, live close to campus, and have dedicated university customer care to help you with any issues or concerns you may have. Throughout the year, a Residence Life team organizes a variety of activities for university accommodation residents as well as providing support during your stay. Sheffield is a thriving, contemporary city in the center of the United Kingdom. With a population of over half a million people, it offers all of the amenities you’d expect of a big UK city, as well as convenient and economical transportation, making it a great base for travelling the UK and Europe. Sheffield has plenty to see and do, as well as the magnificent Peak District National Park, which is only 30 minutes away for those who wish to explore the English countryside. Sheffield is a warm, welcoming, and safe city, as well as the most cheap UK university city (Natwest Student Living Index 2021), so your money will go farther here.
