About the Scholarship:

The Institution of Adelaide is a public university in Adelaide, South Australia’s seaside capital. Walter Watson Hughes, a philanthropist and copper miner, created it in 1874. Adelaide Institution, the country’s third-oldest university, held its first official lecture in Latin in 1876, and the Bachelor of Arts was the first degree offered. Dr. Augustus Short, an Oxford University graduate who had taught at Christ Church College, was the university’s first vice-chancellor. Short worked hard to make the University of Adelaide as advanced as possible, including sciences, modern literature, art, and philosophy in the curriculum, which set it apart from the conventional Classics curriculum of the period in Oxford. His ambition was realized in 1882, when the institution became Australia’s first to award science degrees. Today, the university’s mission is to “find new knowledge,” “pursue innovation,” and “prepare tomorrow’s educated leaders who are autonomous, creative thinkers with an international perspective.” It is a member of the Group of Eight, an alliance of Australia’s leading research-intensive institutions, and offers degrees in five faculties: arts, engineering, computer and mathematical sciences, health sciences, professions, and scientific faculty. Adelaide is home to 25,000 students (about 30% of whom are international students from over 100 countries) and 3,600 staff employees. The university has four campuses in South Australia, and through a relationship with the Ngee Ann-Adelaide Education Centre, degree programs are also available in Singapore. Other study abroad options are available in Hong Kong, France, the Netherlands, and other locations. Five Nobel laureates and 110 Rhodes scholars are among the university’s prominent graduates, as are Julia Gillard, Australia’s first female Prime Minister, and Robin Warren, who co-discovered the link between the bacterium Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) and peptic ulcers. The promise—and reality—of making history is a source of pride and inspiration for the Adelaide team. Our employees work with world-class colleagues, get continual professional development, and work in a diverse setting. Students from over 100 countries are part of our community. Around half of our academics were born outside of the United States or have dual citizenship. Excellence in Research Australia, 2018 (the most recent assessment date). *Economist Intelligence Unit, 2021. According to the QS Graduate Employability Rankings for 2020. The university’s academic curriculum is divided into five faculties: the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, the Faculty of Arts, the Faculty of Mathematics, the Faculty of Professions, and the Faculty of Sciences. These faculties comprise a variety of schools that allow students to select from a wide range of disciplines based on their area of interest. School of Civil Engineering, School of Mining Engineering, School of Electrical & Electronic Engineering, School of Architecture, School of Music, and School of Physical Sciences are among the schools on the list. Undergraduate, postgraduate, and specialty degree programs are all available at the university. Furthermore, it runs student exchange programs that assist pupils learn about diverse curriculums.
