Students interested in conducting research in the Translational Stroke Laboratory at the University of Newcastle, Australia, can apply for a PhD scholarship. To investigate what causes changes in intracranial pressure after a stroke, this study will combine existing stroke models, mass spectrometry, immunohistochemistry, and enhanced physiological monitoring. We are seeking motivated domestic and international graduates to pursue a Higher Degree by Research to characterize the changes in cerebrospinal fluid compositions and dynamics that underpin intracranial pressure elevation following an ischemic stroke. We also want to see how innovative therapies, such as short-term therapeutic hypothermia, can stop these processes in preclinical stroke models.
