The Skilled Trades College and Scottie Barnes have collaborated to establish a scholarship program that will award a total of $250,000 in funding over the next three years.
About the Scholarship Sponsor:
We are not like other colleges in any way. STC is directed by construction industry veterans who are familiar with the requirements necessary for attaining success in the trades. What makes STC unique? Our contracting division is now involved in a number of projects in the construction industry at locations all around the Greater Toronto Area. We don’t simply speak the talk; we also walk the walk when it comes to our business. Relationship building and networking are essential components of the game, and we have been cultivating these connections for more than 25 years. When you become a member of STC, you automatically become a part of our network.
Students are inspired to achieve their full potential by the supportive environment we provide. We are not here to break your confidence by inundating you with an excessive amount of tests and assignments; rather, our goal is to provide you with every opportunity to get your professional life off to a strong start. Allow us to guide you through the maze that is the construction industry. We will be by your side through each and every one of these steps. You have earned the right to lead a life that is fulfilling to you – Love Life, Work Construction. STC puts an emphasis on what really matters—hands-on experience! Every one of our programs was developed with the independent contractor in mind. In the end, it is going to be them who decide whether or not to hire you. While it is necessary to have an understanding of the theory, your capacity to contribute effectively to the progress of the work will determine whether or not you succeed as an apprentice. Because of the structure of our program, you will spend at least 60 percent of your time in the laboratory working with the tool that is of the utmost importance: YOUR HANDS.
Throughout the course of the program, the encouraging and encouraging manner in which we teach will contribute to the growth of your confidence. Make your mistakes while you are here so that you will make less mistakes on the job, where they will matter less but will still affect your performance. We want every graduate to walk away from STC with their heads held high and a confident grin on their face. That should be our endpoint.
STC is not an academically rigorous math course like those taken in high school or college. We work hard and have fun at the same time. We have known for a very long time that the more our staff and students enjoy themselves while participating in the program, the more they receive out of it. In the end, we want to motivate you to advance in your chosen field of work. Because the program is exciting and interesting, you will find that you cannot wait to get out of bed in the morning so that you may check out what the day has in store for you.
A college program is an excellent location to begin working toward a career in the trades, so consider enrolling in one if this is something that interests you. Not only will you gain knowledge from skilled and experienced tradespeople, but you’ll also have the opportunity to benefit from a network of industry connections that can lead to apprenticeships and jobs. Because many college trades programs incorporate apprenticeship training or co-ops directly into the diploma programs, you can fulfill the in-school requirements of an apprenticeship as part of your program if you choose to enroll in one of these programs.
A pre-trades program is something you might want to check into if you’re interested in pursuing a career in the trades but aren’t quite sure which area of expertise you want to focus on. These programs will introduce you to a number of different trades, such as machining, electrical work, and construction. In addition, they will assist you in developing skills that are complementary to those trades, such as mathematics for the trades, drafting, and employment readiness.
