Several Doctorate Scholarships are available at Auckland University of Technology in order to attract high-achieving doctoral research students to the university, as well as to support and stimulate doctoral study in areas that will increase the university’s research capability. Scholarships are awarded to outstanding students who apply to a PhD program at AUT and who have demonstrated academic excellence.

Before applying for a scholarship, applicants must first be accepted into the doctorate program at their chosen institution. Doctoral Scholarships are available at AUT for studies beginning in 2022 in two categories. When evaluating scholarship applications, AUT considers a number of different factors.

About the Scholarship:

The Auckland Institution of Technology (AUT) is a public research university in New Zealand that was established in the year 2000. It was formerly known as Auckland Technical School when it opened its doors in 1895, and students can attend evening sessions there. When Auckland Technical College began offering afternoon courses, the institution was renamed to better reflect this change in policy. The university was renamed in 2000 to better reflect its newfound status as a research institution. As a member of the Association of Asia Pacific Business Schools (AAPBS), the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), and the Consejo Latinoamericano de Escuelas de Administracion (CLAEA), among other organizations, it is a member of the Association of Asia Pacific Business Schools (CLADEA). NASA, Air New Zealand, Spark, and Orion Health are just a handful of the many large and small corporations with whom AUT has partnered in the past and continues to collaborate today, as well as other organizations. The university has three campuses: the City Campus, which is located in Auckland’s central business district, the North Campus, which is located in Northcote, and the Manukau Campus, which is located in Manukau (South Campus). Outstanding study rooms, administrative offices, as well as recreational and housing halls and services, may be found on the campuses’ many buildings. Mental health counselors with extensive experience are accessible to students at AUT for free therapy sessions and other support services. Food and beverage options for students on campus include cafés, bars, and restaurants that provide nutritional meals and beverages. Other on-campus amenities include libraries, gyms, training rooms, athletic grounds, printing centers, student lounges, childcare facilities, bookshops, and student service centers, to name a few. Students have unlimited access to free Wi-Fi across the campus.

Students at AUT can choose to live on campus in apartments and townhouses that are both catered and self-catered. Shopping, entertainment, and amusement opportunities are all conveniently available near each of the university’s four campuses. AUT maintains a fleet of buses to assist students and faculty in getting around the campus. It has a hierarchical academic organization with five faculties and a total of 17 schools, which makes it unique among universities. These are just a few of the more than 250 degree and certificate programs that are offered by the university in the following areas: art and design; economics and science, education, engineering and mathematics; computer science; clinical studies, foreign language, psychological studies, nursing, tourism and hospitality; law, public health; social science; and athletics. Auckland University of Technology has a student body of 29.250 students and 3,400 employees. The university has 195 full and associate professors and 195 assistant professors. A total of 994 students are pursuing PhD degrees at the university. The university has over 5,600 international students, accounting for approximately 19 percent of the total student body. There are about 100,000 AUT graduates scattered throughout the world. More than a handful of its graduates have found success in a variety of fields, including the media, technology, education, and government. Among those honored this year are Carol Hirschfeld (journalist and documentary filmmaker), Stephen Tindall (founder of The Warehouse), Bruce Leslie McLaren (engineer and race car designer), Annette Sylvia Presley (entrepreneur and co-founder of Slingshot), Charlotte Glennie (the first female Asian ABC correspondent), Jim Anderton (New Zealand politician), Claire Jane McLachlan (academic), Dominic Bowden (TV show host), and Joanna Lumley (TV and radio presenter).
