Eligibility

  • This is a competitive scholarship that will determine which student has best and performed better than their peers.
  • The conferences and meetings will be held in the United States, the student chosen to receive the $2,000 travel credit will be able to attend any scientific convention.
  • The applicant must be nominated.
  • The applicant must be a student that is studying at UT Dallas as a natural science undergraduate.
  • Faculty within the UT Dallas Biological Sciences Department will be the individuals who nominate a single student.
  • The student must be able to show their research that is current or past.
  • International students may be nominated as long as they have student visa.
  • Applicant must have at least two semesters of research experience in the lab of the sponsoring faculty member who decides to nominate them.
  • It is up to the faculty member that nominates the student to pay the meeting abstract submission and registration costs.

Requirements

The main requirement is for a faculty member to pick the best student who will be able to utilize the opportunity to further their research within their selected study field. This is a highly competitive scholarship where only one student is chosen per academic year.

Even though this is for the student, the faculty member that nominates said student, has to be present at all of the meetings and conferences as well. This way the faculty and research student will act as a team for that university in the natural sciences selection.

How to Apply

The only way a student can apply, is if that student is nominated by a faculty member of the UT Dallas Biological Sciences Department. Afterwards, the faculty can solely nominate a student that is a natural science undergraduate. This means that natural science majors can not be nominated since they have exceed the undergraduate status.

Reward – Extra Benefits

The reward is a $2,000 travel credit that will go towards travel, plane tickets, rooming and board. This is the only aspect this credit can be used. This amount is highly specific for conferences and attending natural science meetings. If for any reason a student decides to use this amount for something else, they will be asked to return the remaining amount.

Deadline Time Line

The only given deadline time line, is the fact that the application must be received at least 3 months before any conference date. This means that the individual nominating the student must look at the event calendar and set the time exactly to at least 3 months before that date.

Here at Pick a Scholarship we offer a full range scholarship database for all students looking for varying degree levels. While we provide exact information for each scholarship application and when the deadlines/open submission windows are held. We offer a contact section on each post where the admissions of the university or the director of a private sponsor can be reached to give more information or details.

All applicants should consult the e-mail address if a question has not been answered. Beforehand to check the university ‘FAQs’ page to see if anything can be answered right away.

Open Submission Window Time Frame

Open submission window time frame revolves around one fact. Which is, the faculty member that nominates the student, has to do so exactly 3 months before an event meetings or conference. This leaves the deadline and open submission open ended because the meeting dates do change. We highly suggest that the event calendar for the university should be looked at to see what date that would land on.

All students should check with the university website about any delays or changes to the open submission window or deadline time frame. This is the best way to see if anything needs to reviewed or changed before submitting their application.

Anyone can sign up to receive university website newsletters to stay updated on the latest information.

Annual and Renewable Scholarship Option

This is an annual scholarship that only picks one student per year. However, this is not a renewable scholarship since it is only for undergraduate students that have been accepted as a freshman that are already in the research lab at UT Dallas.

Another agriculture and life science based scholarships to look at and see if you fit the eligibility requirements is the Agriculture and Related Sciences Scholarships which is an annual opportunity. Pick a Scholarship has several agriculture and life science scholarship opportunities available for both vocational students, college students, or even teachers looking to expand their career subject.
