The identification of human actions in an automatic and non-intrusive manner is an important and rapidly developing topic of research in the field of artificial intelligence. Increasingly sophisticated technology-based solutions for automatically detecting and modeling human actions are becoming possible as the Internet of Things (IoT) continues to expand at a rapid pace, along with advancements in machine/deep learning.

In recent years, there has been a shift toward edge computing as a means of decreasing communication latency and network traffic while simultaneously maintaining privacy and security. In order to support the modeling of human actions, a variety of methods have been developed. Unfortunately, deep learning algorithms, in particular, have demonstrated great performance; however, they often demand huge amounts of compute for training and inference, rendering them unsuitable for deployment on edge devices with limited processing power and memory. When devices are battery-powered, as is the case with wearable apps, they become much more difficult to manage in a resource-constrained environment, as they become computationally heavy and power-demanding.

About the Scholarship:

The Magee campus, which also houses a fitness center and floodlit fields, is another important sports facility. There are a variety of outdoor sports available around the River Foyle and the town of Donegal, including sailing, rowing, canoeing, hill trekking, and rock climbing. Jordanstown, the university’s largest campus, covers 114 acres and includes various institutes and stores. Engineering, business, social science, media, education, and sports programs are among the many that have been expanded at Jordanstown University. Programs at the Derry campus of Magee include business, cinematic arts, acting, music, engineering, computer science and law. Libraries, multi-faith spaces, medical centers, computer laboratories, printing, and laptop rental services are among the on-site amenities.
