Africa House at New York University (NYU) was fortunate to receive external funding to provide four (4) research grants to graduate and postgraduate students seeking financial support for short-term fellowships in the Africa House Scholarship Programs from NYU.

New York University (New York University) is a private research university distributed throughout the world. Founded in 1831, NYU’s historic campus is located in Greenwich Village, New York.

NYU Africa House Scholarships include:

  • Africa House Development Impact Fraternity / CTED;
  • Africa NYU House Thoyer;
  • Robert Holmes, African Scholarships Research and Travel Grant; and
  • NYU Gallatin and Africa House Summer Fellowship.

Africa House Development Impact Fraternity / CTED:

This US$1,500 grant will be awarded to two (2) students to cover costs associated with research activities related to finding innovative solutions that improve student lives. It can enrich people in developing countries.

The fellowships help students and Ph.D. students to cover the costs of research projects carried out in the spring, summer, or autumn of 2024 in the following Africa House / CTED research areas:

  • Economic and political theory
  • Economic development, mobile applications, rural tourism.
  • Food and agricultural markets
  • Migration and diaspora.
  • Local governance, cultural norms, and development of property rights.

Eligibility for Africa House/CTED Development Impact Fellowship:

Applicants must be enrolled in higher education at New York University and graduate in May 2024.

Requirements:

  • Please explain how you would like to participate in the intellectual life of Africa House / CTED on the Africa House Fellowship Application Form
  • Author or co-author of a research article (1) with the conclusions of your research project to be submitted to Africa House / CTED in spring 2024
  • Personally present the results of the research in the spring of 2024 at the Maison de l’Afrique

NYU Africa House Thoyer Scholarship

This $2,500 scholarship is awarded to two (2) outstanding Ph.D. students support African research and studies in economics and disciplines. Scholarships can be used during study or research at New York University for travel, housing, tuition, books, research, and other relevant expenses.

The Thoyer Fraternity of Africa House is based on the idea that development is most likely in cases of sustainable and sound management of the economy and that this management is most likely in cases of development experts from groups conducting active relevant research. and well-informed.

Eligibility for NYU Africa House Thoyer Scholarship

  • Applicants must enroll in higher education at New York University and not graduate before May 2024.
  • Open to students in the fields of Economics Political Economy or related disciplines.

Requirements:

  • Please explain how you would like to participate in the intellectual life of Africa House / CTED on the Africa House Fellowship application form.
  • Author or co-author of a research article (1) with the conclusions of your research project to be submitted to Africa House in spring 2024.
  • Present the results of the research in person in the spring of 2024 at the Maison de l’Afrique.

  • The proposal should be written for expert readers, but not for experts in your field or department members (New York Times). It must include the research question, thesis/hypothesis, methodology, importance, budget, etc. of the proposal.

  • You must assess the general quality of the candidate’s scientific work, the expected contribution of the research proposal to the academic world, and the prospects for publication of all or part of the work.
  • A letter must come from the candidate’s educational advisor.

Robert Holmes African Scholarship Research and Travel Scholarship

(Students must apply for their services to attract applications. Some departments often supersede internal deadlines for students, so interested students should check with the department as soon as the call has been launched in mid-December and the results could start at the beginning of April 2024)

Two Outstanding Prizes totaling $2,500 will be awarded by the summer of 2024 to outstanding GSAS graduates nominated for their African studies and research support departments.

Doctor. students should expect to complete the remaining credits and study requirements (qualifying exams, general and language exams) in the year following the award, which is not the dissertation. Candidates may apply for exceptional Master’s students proposing research papers that contribute to their final dissertation.

Research supporting awards and study abroad humanities and social sciences can be used for visits to research sites such as archives, libraries, and fieldwork courses that are required for further ongoing dissertation research. Winners will be required to present their research as part of the Africa House programme, if possible in spring 2024.

Ph.D. in Philosophy. students who have been nominated but not selected for the Holmes Award will automatically be selected for the GSAS Pre-Doctoral Fellowship. The program is considered as described above.

New York House Gallatin and Africa NYU House Summer Fellowship:

New York University and Gallatin Africa House will be awarded up to $5,000 to a Gallatin student whose concentration is on travel to Africa in the summer of 2024 and their exploration in Africa would benefit.

Some research areas are open, but they are preferable to those that focus on business, development, or travel and tourism, including cultural activities tourism. This investigation must be closely linked to an existing or developing merger.

Previous related courses are expected. In the spring semester, students will have the opportunity to present their findings at a forum sponsored by Gallatin and Africa House.

The Fellow must spend at least five weeks in Africa in the summer of 2024. The recipient is responsible for arranging their travel and accommodations with the assistance of the Gallatin Global Program Office. These agreements must be consistent with health and safety practices.

Eligibility for NYU Gallatin and Africa NYU House Summer Fellowship

Gallatin students and graduate students. The final exams must be between 2 and 5 years old and at least one semester after the completion of the research project, so they cannot be completed before January 2024.

Undergraduate students must have completed at least one semester and not already completed their listed thesis dissertations and defense credits.
