The Kentucky TESOL scholarship stems from the organization which looks to help the immigrant population in Kentucky. While the relative small community is compared to other states, the community still remains an influential and growing part of the economy and workforce. A third of all immigrants here hold a college degree, according to the American Immigration Council, and they comprise about 25 percent of the workforce in the state’s fishing, farming, and forestry industries.

The growth of this population has created a demand for ESL teachers within the last 15 years. The Kentucky TESOL scholarship is looking for students for the 2022-2023 school year. This is where the the U.S. Department of Education reported shortages of ESL teachers at all grade levels (PreK-12) in the Kentuckiana Works (includes Bullitt, Henry, Jefferson, Oldham, Shelby, Spencer, and Trimble counties) and Bluegrass (includes Anderson, Bourbon, Boyle, Clark, Fayette, Franklin, Garrard, Harrison, Jessamine, Lincoln, Madison, Mercer, Nicholas, Scott, and Woodford counties) regions.

Because of this shortage, more ESL teachers are needed and students who are looking to become a educator would be excellent for this role.

The state of Kentucky is expanding and constantly looking for more and more educators to be at the forefront. Since Kentucky is starting to climb up the education ladder as more and more immigrant families move to the state, it is with reason that more educators are needed.

Not only does this bring more stability but this brings diversity which is needed within the state. Along with helping to progressively push the education system towards a higher degree instead of being within the lower portion like the state has been within the last 15 year or so. This association is a huge swift and moving program that is showing the world how education improves the lives of everyone, no matter where they are from.

Applicants should check out the other scholarships that are available from the TESOL website that is provided as a link on this page. And continue to move forward with the greater good when it comes to education for students and adults alike.

Requirements

Applicants that have shown teacher leadership skills before would be highly recommended for this scholarship application. They may even be asked to provide for additional documents if they have taught a summer class before.

While this scholarship is not specific on whether individuals who are not a United State citizen can apply or not is stated. It is stated that since this is for communities who are not native to the United States, someone that has previously lived in South America but moved to the United States can apply. As far as it is stated they do not have to be a United States citizen, only that they now live in the state. So if an individual is on a grant for education but is from another country they can still apply. Since the ESL is looking for educators there may be a few rules that applicants can skip, but they should contact the e-mail to ask more questions.
