The Nokia Bell Labs Prize is an international competition for innovators from participating countries. It aims to honor ideas that address some of humanity’s most pressing issues, and it gives selected innovators the opportunity to work with Nokia Bell Labs experts to help them realize their vision.

Every year, the Bell Labs Prize is given to an innovator who, in our opinion, will lay the groundwork for the next technological revolution, radically altering the way we live, work, and communicate. You’ve come to the perfect place if you have an innovative new idea and proof of concept that you’d like to explore further with premier Nokia Bell Labs experts.

About the Scholarship:

The Nokia Foundation was founded in August 1995 as an effort of Nokia Oyj to promote and support scientific advancement and education in Finland’s information and telecommunications technology industries. In addition to techniques from other scientific fields, such as social, behavioral, business, and service sciences, multidisciplinary research in these areas is highly valued. The Foundation offers annual grants and awards to the most qualified applicants to assist it achieve its purpose. The Foundation’s Board of Directors, which includes members from both Finnish institutions and Nokia, make decisions. Nokia Corporation is the largest mobile phone maker in the world, with clients in 130 countries. Mobile Phones, Multimedia, Enterprise Solutions, and Networks are the four business groups that make up Nokia. The Mobile Phones division sells wireless voice and data devices to both consumers and businesses. Mobile gaming gadgets, home satellite systems, and cable television set-top boxes are all sold under the Multimedia category. Wireless systems for usage in the corporate sector are developed by the Enterprise Solutions group. The company’s Networks division sells wireless switching and transmission equipment. Nokia maintains research and development facilities in 12 countries and operates 15 production plants in nine countries. Nokia’s market share is still dropping due to the fact that it has not been able to offer a meaningful competitor to the iPhone up until now. Nokia made the first move towards strengthening its position in the smartphone market when it announced a partnership with Microsoft in February 2011. The strategic partnership’s goal was to get people to use the new Windows 7 operating system and build the next ecosystem to compete with iOS and Android. (From Nokia’s official website, Our Company/The Nokia Story 2012) Nokia recently decided to take on its rivals by launching the “most innovative mobile device in the world.” The Nokia Lumia 920 is a smartphone that runs on Microsoft Windows 8. Despite Nokia Lumia’s original features, the timing will make it tough for it to compete against the main smartphone leaders, who are already well-known and respected on the global market. Unfortunately, both Windows Phone and Nokia were late to the smartphone revolution. Nokia Company was formed in 1865 in the small town of the same name in central Finland as a pulp and paper manufacturer. Nokia was a forerunner in the business, pioneering numerous novel manufacturing techniques in a country with only one main natural resource: its enormous forests. The corporation even built its own power plants as the industry became more energy-intensive. Nokia, on the other hand, remained a significant but immobile company in a mostly forgotten area of northern Europe for many years. In 1915, Nokia shares were initially listed on the Helsinki stock exchange. After World War II, Nokia saw its first big transformation. Despite its proximity to the Soviet Union, Finland has always maintained commercial ties with Scandinavian and other Western countries, and Nokia became a significant exporter as Finnish trade increased.
