About the Scholarship:

Institution of Oxford is the oldest university in the English-speaking world, having been founded in 1209 and dating back to that time period. As one of the world’s foremost centers of study, the university has an annual revenue of more than £1.3 billion and operates as a collegiate institution. Approximately 13,000 people work across Oxford’s four academic divisions, 38 self-governing colleges, and six permanent private halls, which total more than 11,700 students, 10,900 postgraduates, and approximately 13,000 faculty and staff. In the heart of the university’s success is the collegiate structure, which affords both students and academics the benefits of belonging to a major, internationally renowned institution as well as to a small interdisciplinary academic community. Oxford University has been ranked number one in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings for the second year in a row, and our ground-breaking research and innovation are at the heart of this achievement, according to the rankings. Staff, students, and alumni have all contributed to making a significant difference in the world throughout many centuries through their work at the university. With 48 percent of its research classified as world-class and a further 39 percent rated as internationally excellent, Oxford University received the greatest overall rating in the most current assessment of research excellence in UK colleges and universities Distinguished by the range and depth of its research collaborations, and by the fact that it has a truly multinational student body and academic staff, Oxford’s international prominence rivals that of any other institution in the world. International students account for over 40% of the student body, and academic staff account for 41% of the faculty. There are numerous current and former leaders of many countries among its graduates, including former US President Bill Clinton, Martha Lane Fox, co-founder of lastminute.com, Sir Tim Berners-Lee, creator of the World Wide Web, and former Prime Minister of Pakistan Benazir Bhutto, among others. The University’s academic prowess benefits the economy and the wider society, with £5.8 billion in gross value added (GVA) pouring into the United Kingdom each year and 50,000 employment across the country supported by the University’s research, teaching, and entrepreneurship activity. In addition to being the oldest university in the English-speaking world, the University of Oxford is widely considered as one of the world’s most prestigious academic institutions, with 38 separate colleges and six permanent private halls. As a member of the Russell Group of research-intensive British universities, the Coimbra Group (a network of top European universities), the League of European Research Universities, and the Europaeum, the University is well-positioned to contribute to these organizations’ missions and goals. Oxford is consistently listed among the world’s top five universities in terms of academic excellence.
