Scholarship Eligibility

The First Nations University of Canada (FNUniv) is a unique and culturally rich institution that holds a significant place in the landscape of higher education in Canada. Here are the important criteria for candidates applying for the SaskEnergy Scholarship at FNUniv:

  • Eligibility:
    • Candidates must be Status Indian, Non-Status Indian, Inuit, or Métis registered at FNUniv.
    • Candidates must have resided in Saskatchewan for a minimum of 24 consecutive months preceding the date of application.
    • Candidates must have achieved a minimum academic average of 65% in the preceding year of study, subject to the minimum passing requirement. The goal is for the higher the scholarship award, the higher the average.
    • Candidates must have enrolled as a full-time student in the current year.
  • Financial Need:
    • Candidates must demonstrate financial need. If the applicant is band-funded, the maximum scholarship award is $1,000.
  • Documentation:
    • Candidates must submit a completed Student Consent and Testimonial Form as set out in Exhibit 1.
  • Scholarship Limitations:
    • Candidates may not hold a SaskEnergy Scholarship in conjunction with other scholarships or bursaries exceeding an aggregate total of $7,500, including SaskEnergy Scholarships the student may have received through or from other institutions.

Application Process 

To apply to the First Nations University of Canada (FNUniv), please follow the application guidelines outlined below:

University of Regina Application:

  • All new applicants must complete the University of Regina application form, available online or in paper-based format.
  • When completing the application, select the First Nations University of Canada as your Federated College. Choose the appropriate campus location from Regina, Saskatoon, or Prince Albert.

U of R Admission Requirements:

  • It is essential to meet the admission requirements specified by the University of Regina for your desired program to be accepted.
  • FNUniv does not directly admit students, but our dedicated Academic Advisors are available to assist you throughout the application process.

General Online Application Form:

  • Select the applicable General Online Application Form based on your situation.
  • Depending on the chosen form, you may have the option to print the application and submit it via mail to the appropriate office location.

Important Note 

By fulfilling the full-time student status requirement and registering or being already enrolled in the specified credit hours, you become eligible for the respective scholarship amount.

Scholarship Value 

Full-Time Student Status:

  • $5,000.00 Scholarship: You must be a full-time student registering or already registered in a full course load consisting of 15 credit hours.
  • $1,000.00 Scholarship: You must be a full-time student registering or already registered in a full course load consisting of 12 credit hours.
