The Institution of Queensland (UQ) is an Australian public research university based in Brisbane. UQ is Australia’s fifth oldest university, having been founded in 1909 by the state legislature. UQ is regarded as one of Australia’s top universities, as well as one of the most prestigious in the world.
About the Scholarship:
The University of Queensland (UQ) is one of Australia’s most prestigious research and teaching institutions. UQ has earned more national teaching awards than any other Australian university, owing to its strong concentration on teaching excellence.
In South East Queensland, UQ has three campuses. Brisbane is the capital of Queensland and home to the University of Queensland’s St Lucia and Herston campuses. Brisbane, with a population of 2.4 million people, offers a pleasant and safe lifestyle, as well as a subtropical climate and a dynamic culture. With World Heritage rainforests, mountain ranges, and beaches on our doorstep, Brisbane is quickly becoming a centre in the Asia–Pacific for business, investment, major events, and education.
CWTS Leiden Ranking (32), Performance Ranking of Scientific Papers for World Universities (40), QS World University Rankings (47), U.S. News Best Global Universities Rankings (42), Academic Ranking of World Universities (54), and Times Higher Education World University Rankings all place UQ among the top universities in the world (66). According to the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2019, UQ is ranked in the top 50 in the world in 24 subjects, including sports-related subjects (2), mineral and mining engineering (5), environmental sciences (11), agriculture and forestry (17), education (19), nursing (21), psychology (23), hospitality and leisure management (27) and sociology (29)..
The University of Queensland’s 268,000 graduates are part of a global alumni network that spans more than 170 countries and includes about 14,500 PhDs. More than 53,600 current students study across UQ’s three campuses in South East Queensland, including more than 18,600 postgraduate students and over 18,000 international students from 134 countries. UQ’s six colleges, eight internationally renowned research institutes, and more than 100 research centers draw a multidisciplinary community of 1500 scientists, social scientists, and engineers who carry on UQ’s research leadership history.
Students in Queensland have access to a diverse range of educational possibilities. Queensland’s student culture has quickly evolved, thanks to its broad golden beaches, tropical rainforests, vivid sea and wildlife, and amusement parks. Queensland’s metropolitan universities are well-known for their diverse course offerings, which include everything from arts and business to human movement and hotel management. More specialized disciplines of study, such as hospitality and management, marine science, and tropical agriculture, are available in regional Queensland.
UQ is also one of only three Australian charter members of the prestigious Universitas 21 consortium, the world’s leading not-for-profit consortium of massive open online courses; a founding member of the Group of Eight (Go8) universities; a member of Universities Australia; a member of the Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU); and one of only three Australian charter members of the prestigious edX consortium, the world’s leading not-for-profit consortium of massive open online courses (MOOCs).
More than 15,400 PhDs are among UQ’s 280,000 graduates, who form an engaged worldwide network spanning more than 170 nations. More than 55,300 current students study across UQ’s three campuses in South East Queensland, including the bulk of Queensland’s greatest academic achievers, more than 19,900 postgraduates, and nearly 20,200 foreign students from 142 countries. The interdisciplinary community of 1500 scientists, social scientists, and engineers who advocate research excellence and perpetuate UQ’s heritage of research leadership are drawn to UQ’s six colleges, eight globally recognized research institutions, and more than 100 research centres. This is evident in the fact that UQ has received the most Australian Research Council Fellowships and Awards (419 awards totaling over $290 million) over all scheme years.
