James Cook University is offering Undergraduate Scholarships for Australian students in 2022. The value of the JCU 2022 Scholarship will be $10,000 per year, for the minimum number of years expected to be completed full-time.

The JCU Deans Scholarship provides financial support to high-achieving students throughout their careers to enable students to fully commit to their studies.

Scholarship Benefits:

  • Scholarship recipients will receive financial assistance in the amount of up to $10,000 per year in scholarships that may be awarded each year, provided there are candidates of sufficient merit available.

  • Entry Requirements: Below situation must be followed to apply for this scholarship:
  • Be an Australian citizen or holder of an Australian permanent humanitarian visa, or Australian permanent resident or New Zealand citizen;
  • Be likely to achieve a Queensland Overall Position (OP) of 1-3 or the equivalent Australian Tertiary Admissions Ranking (ATAR) or International Baccalaureate (IB) score (no bonus ranking points or adjustments will apply) from OP); and
  • You have enrolled through the Queensland Tertiary Admissions Center (QTAC) and have nominated a JCU course as your first or second preference

How to Apply for JCU Scholarship

Before completing an application, you should carefully read the Scholarship Rules below. Applicants who wish to apply for this scholarship must attach the following documents to their application:

  • A written personal statement with a maximum of 1000 words that is addressed to:
    • What you believe are the most important challenges facing tropical and underserved populations and how completion of a JCU degree will enable you to make a difference and create a brighter future for life in the tropics;
    • The reasons and motivation for your choice of study area or program; and
    • The extent to which the scholarship will make your study possible.
  • A concise CV detailing academic achievements, work experience, community involvement, and any other extracurricular activities (this should be no more than 5 pages);
  • Year 12 Semiannual report 1; and
  • No more than three written references attesting to your character and/or your eligibility to receive the scholarship (these may be the same as those used to support written applications for the courses listed above).

Applicants may be required to conduct an interview as part of their application.

When applying for a scholarship it is very important that you answer all questions and include all relevant documents. Your application and relevant documents must be submitted before the closing date. If an application is incomplete, it will not be considered.

The scholarship application opens annually in September.

About Max Po PhD Scholarships

The Max Planck Sciences Po Center for the Management of Inebilities in Market Societies (MaxPo) is a Franco-German research center that was founded in 2012 on the initiative of the Max Planck Society and Sciences-Po, Planck Institute for Enterprise Research (MPIfG) in Cologne.

The Center’s research investigates how individuals, organizations and nation-states are coping with alternative forms of economic and social instability that have developed in Western societies due to policy changes, expanding markets, advances technological and cultural changes.

Located at Sciences Po Paris and in close cooperation with the MPIfG, the Center aims to contribute substantially to the social sciences in Europe and to enrich the academic and political dialogue between France and Germany.

It generally required applicants whose first language is not English to provide evidence of proficiency in English at the higher level required by the University.

Scholarship Voucher

The selected candidates will get 2,188 euros (gross monthly salary); a three-year contract starting in October 2022; including a period of 12 weeks of administrative service to MaxPo and a research stay at the IMPRS-SPCE in Cologne.

Eligibility for Max Po 202 2 Doctoral Scholarships

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

Candidates should have a Master’s degree (or equivalent) and have received training in the following disciplines: history, sociology, or political science, with additional training in related fields. They should have experience with qualitative and quantitative methods.

There is no nationality requirement; however, a firm command of English and a working knowledge of French are required.

Applicants’ research interests must fall into MaxPo’s research program area, and their Ph.D. project proposal must fit into one of MaxPo’s two research groups. We welcome original and independent proposals.

Research topics must be situated in economic sociology, political economy, or economic or political history and may include:

  1. The intellectual, political, and economic history of neoliberalism; elite and mass politics; the commodification of social life; concepts of democracy, politics, and progress since the 1970s; the consequences of neoliberalism;
  2. Labor markets and inequality; job segregation; team dynamics and team divisions in organizations, companies, and political parties; the sociology of financial markets; The political and social consequences of economic crises.
  3. The MaxPo doctoral program is run in close collaboration with the doctoral program of the International Max Planck Research School on the Political and Social Constitution of the Economy (IMPRSSPCE) in Cologne. Together, we offer the possibility of a double doctorate (cotutelle de thèse).

How do I apply for this scholarship?

To apply for this scholarship, you need to obtain all the required documents and compile them into a single PDF. These documents include a CV; a transcript of records from each institution attended; a cover letter that briefly describes your intellectual path so far and discusses the topics that interest you (maximum 2 pages); a thesis project proposal (maximum 5,000 words); a project title; an abstract summarizing your thesis project; a writing sample (such as an article, thesis, or term paper); If possible, we strongly recommend that you obtain one or more letters of recommendation (a letter from your MA advisor would be especially helpful).

Incomplete files will not be considered.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to an online interview. Final decisions will be made annually in mid-April.

Scholarship Application Deadline

The application deadline for the  Max Po Ph.D. Scholarships for International Students are usually every March. Specific dates will be posted once the application portal reopens for the year. After which no further applications will be considered.
