What is this scholarship about and what is the Phi Alpha Theta Honor Society? The honor society is an American society for undergraduate and graduate students and professors of history, specifically Modern European history. The society has grow to accommodate well over 400,000 members, with some 9,000 new members joining per academic year. As of 202 there are well over 970 chapters nationwide.

Phi Alpha Theta was established in the early 1920s by the University of Arkansas. The Professor Nels Cleven was the initial creator of this chapter. Professor Nels Cleven had become convinced in his time at the university that a fraternity of scholars (which would accept men or women) was important for the study of history.

Afterwards there was enough invited students, where were asked to attend a meeting to form the society (then called the “University Historical Society”). Then the society was officially recognized and put on the state and nationwide map to encourage history students to join the chapter. Then followed the actual dedicated naming of the chapter which took some careful consideration considering that this fraternity was created under the guise of European history.

This fraternity accepts both male and female scholars who are building a new look at Modern European history. This means that we now have new researchers involved in the classic appeal of all European history that may have gone un-researched or discovered before.

This is a hugely exciting venture because these scholars will be able to travel more so than before.

Students should read more about what the chapter does for scholars who excel and keep a high grade point average throughout their entire college career.

Nevertheless, all students may contact the chapter via e-mail address to ask any more questions that may not have been answered by the original website.
