$27,500 Victoria University of Wellington 2022 Intracluster Medium of Galaxy Clusters PhD Scholarship
A fully funded PhD scholarship is available at Victoria University of Wellington to collaborate with Dr Yvette Perrott on research into the intracluster medium of galaxy clusters. The use of galaxy clusters as precise cosmological probes is now constrained by our incomplete understanding of the relationship between the easily detectable gas component and the dark matter-dominated total mass. This observational and simulation-based project will examine flexible yet robust methods for extracting cluster gas pressure profiles from Sunyaev-Zel’dovich effect data obtained with current and next-generation instruments, as well as methods for modeling non-thermal pressure and its relationship to synchrotron radio emission.
