The Swiss Confederation offers scholarships of excellence in the fields of research and the arts each year. These government grants encourage international exchanges and promote collaboration between Switzerland and more than 180 countries. The Federal Commission awards them for Scholarships for Foreign Students (CFBE).

The scholarships of excellence of the Swiss Confederation are aimed at young foreign researchers who have completed master’s or doctorate studies and at foreign artists holding a bachelor’s degree.

Country of scholarship: The Swiss Confederation Grant for Foreign Researchers and Artists will be hosted in Switzerland.

Scholarship Sponsor: several Universities sponsor this student grant.

Scholarship Year: 2020-2021

Scholarship Level: Bachelors, Master, Doctorate.

Target Countries: Africans, Americans, Europeans, Maghrebins, and everyone else who is interested in applying for the Swiss Confederation Grant for Foreign Researchers and Artists.

Target group: For all international candidates.

Grant amount: 10,000 Swiss Francs

Application deadline: the application deadline for the Swiss Confederation Grant for Foreign Researchers and Artists is September 1, 2020.

Types of grants:

  • Research grant: researchers holding a master’s or doctorate from all disciplines who wish to carry out a research stay or pursue their doctoral or postdoctoral research in Switzerland are eligible for a research grant.

It is possible to obtain a research grant for all universities and universities of applied sciences in Switzerland as well as for the two federal polytechnics.

Only the applications supported by an academic advisor from the chosen university are valid.

  • Art grant: art students holding a bachelor who wish to obtain their first master in Switzerland can apply for an artistic grant. It is possible to obtain an artistic grant to study in all conservatories and high schools of art in Switzerland. The application is valid only if the artist is admitted to the chosen university. This scholarship offer is limited to certain countries.

Selection criteria

The CFBE examines grant applications according to the following three criteria:

a) The candidate’s profile;

b) The quality of the research project or artistic work;

c) Synergies and potential for future collaboration.

The CFBE will make its decision on the 2020-2021 scholarships by the end of May 2020. The call for applications for the 2020-2021 academic year will be online from August 2020.

The scholarships of excellence of the Swiss Confederation are aimed at young foreign researchers who have completed master’s or doctorate studies and at foreign artists holding a bachelor’s degree. fi you’re a foreign artist but you are not holding a bachelors degree, please don’t apply for this student grant.
