Undergraduate students from various countries (including some from Japan) who are committed to or who are considering a career in biology or related sciences and who are looking to continue their education at the graduate level are eligible to participate in the program. The program is designed to provide these students with an opportunity to participate in biomedical research for a period of eight weeks in the basic and translational sciences. Faculty members from the Graduate School of Medicine, the Graduate School of Engineering, the Graduate School of Science, the Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, the Graduate School of Agricultural and Life Sciences, and the Institute of Industrial Science are offering students the opportunity to participate in research at their respective schools.

Students are expected to have acquired both the information and the abilities necessary to successfully carry out research by the time their summer experiences have come to a close. Additionally, it is anticipated of the students that they will deepen their international friendships by their participation in the joint activities. The students will be better prepared for future partnerships in a variety of settings as a result of these experiences.

Alumni of the University of Tokyo include not only eight people who have gone on to win the Nobel Prize, but also fifteen Japanese prime ministers and five astronauts.

Scholarship Offer:

  • During your time in Japan, you are free to spend the stipend as you see fit, including on your meals and any excursions you want to take for pleasure.
  • ASSISTANCE WITH TRAVEL COSTS Will be offered to domestic students in the form of economy-class airline tickets for flights or round-trip train tickets in order for them to participate in the program and attend the Amgen Scholars Asia Symposium that will be hosted in Singapore. Following the conversation that takes place between participants and the program office, the travel schedule and route that is both the most inexpensive and the most direct will be specified. If the participant needs to rearrange their itinerary for personal reasons, they will be responsible for compensating the University of Tokyo for the cost of the flights that were originally reserved by the university.

 

Eligibility for Scholarship.

  • Undergraduate students who meet the following criteria are eligible to apply for the UTokyo Amgen Scholars Program.
  • Currently enrolled at one of the world’s many schools or universities that grants a bachelor’s degree (or one of its equivalents); and
  • Applicants must, at the very least, have finished their first year of undergraduate studies by the time the summer program begins, and they must be in good academic standing.
  • Are not going to graduate before the start of the summer program, and once the summer program is over, they intend to continue their undergraduate studies for at least one more semester or one more quarter
  • Applicants for the UTokyo Amgen Scholars Program are also required to:
  • Have an excellent track record of academic performance; and Have a good working knowledge of English, as demonstrated by a minimum TOEFL (iBT) score of 72, an IELTS overall band score of 5.5, Cambridge English FCE, TOEIC score of 1095, TOEIC L&R score of 785, or TOEIC S&W score of 310, if you are not a native English speaker or English is not your first language; and Have an interest in pursuing a Ph.D
  • to participate in the Amgen Scholars Program while devoting one’s whole efforts to doing so. During their time in the program, scholars are not permitted to work or enroll in any classes at any other institution. In addition, every participant must be available to take part in the activity during the entirety of its entirety.
  • to make one’s home in the housing that is supplied by the University of Tokyo.
  • to take an active role in the day-to-day operations of the research group, to show respect for the work done by all other members of the laboratory, and to attend and take part in any meetings or other gatherings held in the laboratory.
  • Must participate in all mandatory conferences, activities, and social events, including the orientation that takes place on the first day of the program.
  • should present a poster or deliver a talk outlining the research that he or she did over the summer.
  • At the end of the program, participants are required to hand in a research paper to the director of the UTokyo Amgen Scholars Program.

If you are a first-year student at the University of London and you are paying the home fee, you should apply for the Full-time Undergraduate Bursary for the 2022-2023 school year. The purpose of the scholarship is to help incoming freshmen who have shown strong ambition for higher education and a desire to make a positive impact in their communities on their way to achieving their own personal and professional objectives.
