College education has two facets or sides. One is the side wherein getting a bachelor degree or finishing a degree program will be able to help you achieve your dreams or get into your dream field of career. This side of college education is technically not a lie. Getting a bachelor degree indeed can help you be successful in your dream career or job. However, this isn’t the only side of college. Enrolling in a degree program also means spending money. But with the prices of tuition fee continuously increasing, this is becoming more and more difficult especially since a college student also requires you to pay for other expenses and fees like your apartment rent, electricity and water bills, food, books, and many more. Students tend to solve this by getting a job, applying for a scholarship, or doing both.

Scholarships are great life-savers for college students who struggle with paying for their tuition fees but at the same time show that they can still excel in their studies or balance their studies and participation in the community and church. If you’re a student who can do both, then you are in luck because there is a scholarship program that would fit you very well.

The Darryl Jahn Memorial Scholarship is being offered by the Alumni of Beta Sigma Psi Lutheran fraternity as a way of showing honor and gratitude for the long and unselfish service to the Epsilon Chapter and Beta Sigma Psi. Darryl Jahn helped in uniting multiple Beta Sigs from his chapter throughout his service in the fraternity. It was also due to him and his term as the Presidentt of the Ames Alumni Board that they were able to move to the 223 Lynn Avenue, which is near the Memorial Lutheran Church and the University Lutheran Center.

Interested applicants in this scholarship should be able to show both good academic performance and active participation in your community and church. Other specific qualifications for this are by being a male Lutheran student who will be going to Iowa State University. There are three available scholarships all amounting to $2,000 for each recipient. Should you not be selected for the first one, you will still have a chance for the second and third as they would still be reviewing you.  Applicants should also be able to embody the three S’s of the fraternity: Spiritual, Scholastic, and Social.
